Solar
Kelln Solar is
Canada's largest manufacturer of Solar Water Pumping Systems and Canada's
largest distributor of the UNI-SOLAR photovoltaic product line. Quality
products, customer satisfaction and energy conservation is the backbone
on which Kelln Solar strives to meet its customer needs. Kelln Solar
Water Pumping has been providing Solar Pumping solutions since 1984.
WE PRACTICE
WHAT WE PREACH
Our office building is perhaps the most energy efficient small commercial
building in Saskatchewan, using less than half the energy of a conventional
building of the same size. It's features are: RSI 6 walls; RSI 14
ceiling; quadruple paned windows; passive solar heating; electronic
ignition and vent damper on our boiler; a "state" closed
in hot water heater; set-back thermostat; and state of the art T8
fluorescent lighting system with Silverlux specular reflectors.
Solar Water
Pumping
Our solar pumps have the capabilities of lifting water from 5 feet
to 600 feet. Kelln Surface pumps include our Floating, Centrifugal,
Rotary-vane pumps. Well pumps include our Diaphragm, Piston, Centrifugal,
Rotary-vane, and HR Series pumps.
The benefits
accrued from using a Kelln Solar Water Pumping System for livestock
watering:
- Eliminate
greenhouse gases by displacing fossil fuel combustion;
- Keeping livestock
out of streams eliminates pollutants and improves water quality
by keeping animal waste out;
- Increase
wildlife nesting habitat by keeping livestock away from streams
- livestock are not destroying vegetation by trampling on stream
banks;
- Reduces or
eliminates bacteria and microorganism contamination (ecoli, glardia,
cryptosporidium, etc.) by keeping manure away from water bodies;
- Reduce bacterial
soil transfer and contamination, a key cause of hoof-rot.
Solar Dugout
Aeration
Kelln Solar provides a turnkey solar aeration system for dugouts,
ponds, lagoons, lakes, etc. Aeration means adding air to a body
of water to restore it back to health. Our solar aeration systems
use very efficient compressors with low power requirements and are
guaranteed to improve water quality.

Products
Kelln Solar is Canada's largest distributor of the UNI-SOLAR product
line which includes photovoltaic (PV) panels, structural roofing,
roof laminates, roofing shingles, and flexible panels. Other products
include solar lighting, batteries, inverters, solar fountains, water
heating, wind power, refrigeration, solar highway warning flashers,
composting toilets, solar system controllers, and energy efficient
fans.
Remote Power
Applications
In remote places where grid power is not readily available, solar
and wind energy are attractive alternatives to the sometimes prohibitive
costs of having the electrical grid extended. The very small operating
costs (free!) of solar and wind systems can be attractive compared
to gas or diesel generators, or even the monthly electrical bill.
It is these applications where Kelln Solar and the Power of the
Sun really shine. Kelln Solar has designed installed a few remote
cabin and grid connected systems over the years in Saskatchewan.
Some of these include:
- A 4 kW Solar
Power System for the Narrows Campground in Prince Albert National
Park in 2001;
- Over 4000
Solar water pumping systems since 1988;
- Installed
6 Solar Water Pumping Systems for the Quill Lakes-Wetlands Corporation
project for SaskPower in 1994;
- A 2000 watt
Solar Photovoltaic system was designed and installed on the Saskatchewan
Advanced House in 1993. This system was connected to the electrical
grid in 2002;
- In 1991,
Saskatchewan's first Solar powered building was constructed for
the Canadian wildlife service at St. Denise Saskatchewan.
Consulting
Engineering Services
Kelln Consulting Ltd. is a Consulting Engineering Firm specializing
in Energy Efficient Building Design, and Renewable Energy System
Design. Kelln Consulting Ltd. performs commercial, industrial and
residential electrical and mechanical energy audits. Computer analysis
of building envelope and systems performance, power factor, and
detailed economic analysis are provided.
Kelln Consulting
Ltd. will do custom designs for wind, solar and small hydro-electric
systems, from simple systems for water pumping to complex computer
designed systems for communications systems world wide. Solar thermal
system design for large factories to small solar pool heaters with
predicted performance including dollars and energy saved can be
performed.
The following
are a few of the energy audits Kelln Consulting has done:
- Audited 150
Commercial and Industrial Buildings for SaskPower Corporation
- Arenas, Hospitals,
Government Buildings, Schools, Hotels, etc. were audited for Energy
Conservation
- Under the
Destination Conservation Program, from 1993 to 1999, seven School
Divisions were audited (Unity -Wilkie, Saskatoon West, Herbert,
Northern Lights and Prince Albert Public Schools) and 8 buildings
for the municipality of North Battleford. First year energy savings
with only modest expenditures were more than double the cost of
the Audits. (Saskatoon West: $35,000.00; Unity Wilkie: $24,000.00)
- An Alternate
Energy study was completed for Parks Canada in 1994 for the Motherwell
Homestead.
